Deborah Gersony

Deborah Gersony is an oil painter based in the New York area, working in expressive realism and drawing inspiration from shifting light and atmosphere. She divides her time between plein air painting and more developed studio work, focusing on clarity of form, subtle color relationships, and a strong sense of place.
Gersony is continually developing her craft through direct observation, rigorous practice, and ongoing study with contemporary painters whose work she admires. Her background as a physician informs her careful, attentive approach to seeing, a quality that carries through her landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, and emerging figurative work.
She is a Resident Artist Member of the Salmagundi Club and an Elected Artist Member of the American Artists Professional League (AAPL), where she previously served on the Board as Membership Director and Co-Director of the Grand National Exhibition. She is also a member of Oil Painters of America (OPA), the American Impressionist Society (AIS), the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS), and the International Guild of Realism (IGOR). Her paintings have been included in juried exhibitions nationwide, including shows at AAPL, IGOR, AIS, NOAPS, and the historic Salmagundi Club.
Whether painting outdoors from life or developing larger pieces in the studio, Gersony aims to create work that feels honest, observant, and quietly evocative, shaped by light, time, and the experience of looking closely.
