Deborah Gersony
Fine Art
Deborah Gersony is an expressive realist painter working primarily in oil, drawing inspiration from the shifting light and atmosphere of the natural world. She divides her time between plein air painting and more developed studio work, focusing on clarity of form, subtle color relationships, and a strong sense of place.
Based in New Jersey, Gersony is continually developing her craft through direct observation, rigorous practice, and ongoing study with contemporary painters whose work she admires. Her background as a physician informs her careful, attentive approach to seeing, a quality that carries through her landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, and emerging figurative work.
Her current focus includes an evolving series of expressive realist paintings inspired by historic sculptures in Paris and Versailles.
She is a Resident Artist Member of the Salmagundi Club and an Elected Artist Member of the American Artists Professional League (AAPL), where she serves on the Board as Membership Director and Co-Director of the Grand National Exhibition. She is also a member of Oil Painters of America (OPA), the American Impressionist Society (AIS), the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS), and the International Guild of Realism (IGOR). Her paintings have been included in juried exhibitions nationwide, including shows at AAPL, IGOR, AIS, NOAPS, and the historic Salmagundi Club.
Whether painting outdoors from life or developing larger pieces in the studio, Gersony aims to create work that feels honest, observant, and quietly evocative, shaped by light, time, and the experience of looking closely.
